How did we come up with the idea for this product?
In 2016, we have released our first product SwitchBot which retrofits all the rocker switches and appliances with button to be smart. We see our backers, that is everyone of you, use SwitchBots on coffee machines, light switches, garage locks, computers, dehumidifiers, boilers, water heaters etc. It's really cool!
The Internet will control physical actuators in our homes, cars, factories, and offices. This is inevitable. Other IoT startups think that this involves an entire replacement of our existing physical infrastructure; bluntly, that is unlikely as a first step. We're allowing the infrastructure to be upgraded in place. Then with Alexa, Google Home or IFTTT, everthing could be controlled by voice or sensors.
But mechanically upgrade is not enough. As we know, many of our current appliances are controlled by your IR remotes not physical buttons. So we announced (in Kickstarter update, May 2017) that we are going to design a universal IR blaster that replaces all your IR remotes and connect to the Internet. What's more, we need to control old air conditioners, TVs, cameras by voice. We need to say "Alexa, set my living room air conditioner to 24 degrees", "Hey Google, open my bedroom TV to NHK channel"! With this in mind, we kept collecting all the IR schemes of different appliances from different brands in the last two years.
And today, we are proud to say our new product "SwitchBot Hub Plus" is ready!
